Our partnership in Takalafia village began in September 2009. We got introduced to Takalafia village by a local church, Jesus The Redeemer, that had been doing some development work in the village. The local church was in the process of building a school building for the children in the Takalafia community and needed ample assistance to complete the project. Accessibility to the village was near impossible as the "roads" that led to this community were simply impassable. Considering the remoteness and lack of basic resources in Takalafia, PSH decided to partner with the community on certain initiatives. Our first project in Takalafia was to build a hand pump well for the community. This hand pump well would help facilitate the building of the school and serve as a source of water for the children while at school. After partnering with Oria International, we decided to take our relationship with Takalafia a step further by including the village in our Transformative Community Development Initiative.
